Default Loose hull cap

My rub rail on my 1996 Aquasport 245 was loose and after removing some of it I found the majority of the screws are backed out:banghead I checked and the will tighten up just fine but what kind of sealant and where should I apply it to ensure this will not happen again

Thanks in Advance!!

If you want to take all of them out you can apply a light coat of 5200 to the threads and put them back in. Wipe off the excess, wait a couple of days fro it to cure and then put the insert back in.

Once the screws come loose, it is my opinion that they will back out soon again or eventually strip out.

My cap came loose after a very rough ride one day. My boat is riveted. So I just drilled new holes in between the existing ones and riveted it back together. I then resealed the rub rail with 5200 and it is as good as new.

i had same problem with mine some hole i used sealant and put in new screws some i had to re drill between holes and the ones i could get to i thru bolted with ss bolts and washers, use nylock nuts and dont wrench down on them hard just snug them down. it will cause major problems if you dont i bought my 95 245 for a little bit of nothin because the guy didnt fix this and the hull split at the hole about 1 1/2 foot down. the insurance est to fix was $6500.00 after it broke .i was able to fix it for about 800.00 in materials and alot of labor.almost forgot something if you thru bolt might want a backer strip of aluminum for support ,i did this at the rip for extra support.
