Default Lenght of fuel tank???

My first time to post so bear with me please. In Dec. I bought a 1986 Bayliner center console 18 1/2 ft, with a 94 Evinrude 90 hp motor sitting on a 2008 galv trailer. I don't know if the boat is a trophy or not, can't find out what the model is, anyway, I am gonna rewire the console and I want to put an inspection plate inside the console so I can run the wiring up to the inspection plate. The fuel tank starts at the back of the boat, it's 22" wide, 8 1/2" thick and holds 40 gal. according to the data plate on it. I don't want to drill down and hit the tank while putting in the inspection plate in the console. Where the other wires are routed is really tight. I can't tell what wires are going to what. The live well has a pump and I can see wires coming from it but there is no switch to turn the pump on so I will start with it and run wires to the console and put a switch in for it. I have a rpm gauge to put in, a new gps/fishfinder to install and want to put in a volt meter. That's the beginning anyway. I'm new to salt water fishing but I'm reading everything I can get my hands on to learn and now I have a tub go out in, so look out, I might be dangerous. Thanks in advance, love reading everything on this site. Don

I've read your post 3 times trying to figure out what the question is.:banghead:banghead:banghead

If the question is "How long is the tank" ...the tank is approx 50" long.

Length X Width X Height = cu in

22 X 8.5 = 187sq in

22 X 8.5 X 50 =9350 cu inches

9350/.55411 (oz per cu in) = 5180.92 oz

5180.92/ 128 (oz in gal) = 40.47 gal

I'd figure the outside of the tank is 50" long...being that the inside is smaller in all directions making up for the .47 gals.

According to your dimensions listed the tank should be aprox 49"-50" long

1 gallon willdisplace aprox 231 cubic inches, your dimensions of 22" X 8.5" =187 sq inches --

-40 gallon X 231 Cubic inches = 9240

9240 cubic inches divided by 187 sq" = 49.41 inches long.

I will go with the 50 inches long. Your math simply blows my mind. That tells me I can drill and cut and put an inspection plate inside my console without worrying about blowing myself up. Thank you so much. As this project goes on I imagine I will be coming up with more questions on various problems. It is really a good feeling to know that there are folks like ya'll out there who are willing to share your experience, knowledge and time to help such as myself. Thank you. Don

The same model I put a floor in had the tank at the back and wasn't even under the console.

This may help. That is looking aft.

Looking Forward

X-Shark, the pic's were really helpful, not only to see the tank but also to see what it looks like under the deck. Thanks alot, I appreciate it. I measured 50" from the rear of the tank and it came out just before the console, so I'm gonna be good to go cutting out an inspection plate inside the console. Don

At what point is the tank 8.5" thick? high? Did you measure it that thick on the outside sideof the tank or down the center rear of the tank?

If the tank has a vee bottom, then the overall length will be quite a bit less than the 49" to 50" formulas above.
