Repower! I had hpdi's and they are bombs with today's fuel...

Small block HPDI's 150-200 horse enjoy a good reputation, rebuild is worth considering.
How many hours , and were you burning street gas (ethanol) or marina gas (no ethanol)?

Rebuilding is always the most inexpensive way to go but with HPDI's, you can't just take them anywhere. Rebuilding them isn't the problem, locating the cause and curing the problem so it doesn't happen again is the trick.
