I've got a 50lb thrust tiller salt water motorguide. A few weeks ago it started making a thumping/rubbing sound when it's in the water...doesn't do it when I have it pulled out or at the house here...I don't remember hitting anything but it is possible that I did.

Not sure if it's maybethe bearings aregoing out or if maybe the prop got damaged and it wallering on where the pin sits. I also noticed that the pin was a little off center when I pulled the prop off. It's wedged in there pretty good also. I'll have to break it loose some how to get it out.

Any suggestions on what is causing the sound?
How hard it is it change out the bearings? Something I might try to tackle or not worth the head ache, just take it somewhere.

If it the bearings It should still make a little bit of noise while out of the water. Also check for shaft play a little bit is normal so it just depends on how well you know your motor. I have torn into one before and I wouldn't suggest it if you aren't very proficient in the way an electric motor works. Sounds simple enough but wait till you try to get everything back together. I would rather be tarred and feathered than have to fool with one again.:banghead

Thanks for the replies. I'll hit whipper up when I get a few minutes.

How much play is there suppose to be. I know the shaft will go in and out some. I have checked others and it doesn't feel much different if any but I can see where this is one of those deals where it wouldn't take much difference for it to matter.

Mine has a little less than 1/4" of in/out play. But every motor is different. Like you didn't already know that. :doh
