For some reason my motor keeps getting what seems like vapor lock. The only thing that I can think it could be would be the ethanol that they're putting in the shell stations now.

In the mornings it runs fine. For example, yesterday we ran 18 miles without stopping and it ran fine. However, after trolling and the heat building from the sun the motor starts to hesitate. When you pump the primer ball it will quit. I would say maybe theres a short in the electronic fuel pump, but it does it at unexpected times.

Any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Oh yeah, I changed the fuel lines and water seperator/bowl.

Not saying this is it....but there have been issues with the Fuel Vapor separator. This is caused by fuel sitting.



The intake manifold must be removed to access it.



Start using Sabil "Marine" fuel additive in your fuel ALL the time.

I would dissassemlle the vst, Clean/replace the filter located at the bottom of the high pressure pump (inlet). Test the pressure regulator, Inspect the needlle & seat,etc. make sure the VST is clean & right. Make sure there is no obstruction inthe VST vent& don't be afraid to replace the high pressure filter. This will fix it & should take an expierenced tech no longer than 3 hrs.Good Luck to you !

still havent figured it out. the only thing i can think it could still be would be a crack in the pickup tube towards the top. it seems like after it has burned about 9 or 10 gallons when it starts hesitating.

I mis-read your post & thought it was doing this most of the time, so thats why I reccomended doing what I said. but do check that pick-up tube first!!! Good Luck to you!

Yeah the only bad thing is the pickup tube is either cross threaded or i pulled the threads the last time i had it out. I'm afraid to try to pull it out because it may break and then ill have even worse problems. any suggestions or did i pretty much screw myself when i didnt put it in there right the last time. it didnt feel like it was cross threaded when i put it in but it does now i guess because of the pressure.

Oh, forgot to mention that the pickup tube and the tank are aluminum. (I'm an idiot)

Try this,check to see if the hose barb on your pick-up tube is an anti-syphon. if it is, remove if possible &amp; install a regular hose barb &amp; try to duplicate the issue. if it seems fixed, for safety reasons, reinstall a <U>new</U> anti-syphon valve &amp; a<U>new</U>mechanical pick-up pump on your motor. Here's why, I have noticed that on these fuel injected four strokes, over time that pump gets weaker &amp; has a harder time at idle to un-seat the anti-syphon valve, especially when the resistance increases as the fuel has to be sucked a further distance up that tube. now if you have "A" fuel hose under the deck &amp; feel confident that this hose will neverbe severed, you can get away with leaving the regular barb on the tube...but the liability is on you! Let me know how this works out, Outbrdwrench!

I did another water test and the problem is not in the pickup tube like i had suspected. The problem is still throwing me in a loop. It has something to do with the heat of the day. perhaps something to do with the fuel lines could be the problem. A friend of mine told me that there may be some dry gas in the anti-syphon valve. My next step is to check that out. The only problem is i dont know where to pick one up at. West Marine has one but it is too long for my needs. Is there anywhere else that sells them?:banghead:banghead:banghead
