Default Faulty Trim Motor Switch

I have a 2000 Johnson 150. I can trim the motor both up and down with the switch on the engine. With the switch on the throttle I can only trim the engine down; I cannot trim the engine up. I'm guessing that the problem is a faulty connection in the throttle? Does this sound right? Thanks.

check the associated connector that is not in the throttle handle..had same issue, ended up being a pig-tail type connector that came off the throttle assembly that connected into the electrical harness that went back to the motor....mine was a square connector that had just worked loose....if both the up and down quit from the throttle at the same time, i wouldn't think that the switch in the handle is the issue....

mine was about 2 foot from where the throttle was mounted in the console...if you can locate where the wires actually come off of the throttle assembly....it should lead you to a connector that connects the throttle into the motors wiring harness that goes back to the engine....sometimes the connector is bundled and tie wrapped into the rest of the boats wiiring and hidden under a console.....the "switch" in the throttle is nothing more than a set of contacts that is "extended" from the same wiring that is used to actuate the up and down functions of the switch located on the motor.....the engines wiring harness(including the trim control) is ran from the engine to the helm, where the throttle assembly is normally connected via "connectors"......again, locate the wires leaving the throttle...it should lead you to a connector...one located, verify connectivity...and you can always use this connector to test the "switch" on the throttle by using an ohm meter

Look for the blue, red, and green wire coming out of your shift control box.

I'm not sure how the Johnson works but I used to have the same problem periodically with a Yamaha 115. I'd take the switch apart and clean the contacts with emory cloth and it would be good for another season or two. Be careful there is a small spring in there that would launch itself when I wasn't prepared for it.
