Looking at a couple of boats to buy and was wondering how many hrs can one expect from (1) the cat 3208 and the other 3116 . I'm tring to find as much info on each before I make my decision !! any help please!

Best thing to do is get the engines surveyed when you are serious. The length of engine life is inversely proportional to the maintenance schedule they lived by. The engines with an oil change every hundred hours will outlast the engines with 250, 350 hour oil changes. Remember the oil starts to break down at about 180 F.

You may want to research those engines a little further. Type in caterpillar and "class action lawsuit" with those engine models. I was looking at a boat with similar engines once upon a time.

IMO a 3208 will out last 2 3116's. i had a pair of 450 hp 3208's in a 35 cabo and i loved them. i have not heard anything good about 3116's. the 3126 engine came along right behind the 3116 and was much improved, i had 2 of them in a sea ray but did not keep them long enough to know much about them. stay away from the 3116.
