Default Battery switch with engine on

Is it ok to switch from battery 1 to battery 2 while running the engine?

Yes...If your battery switch has "make before break" contacts. Most switches do..

As OM said....The switches that are not Make before break, I dought that you will have one. They are very old like 30yrs old.

Just make sure that you go from #1 to BOTH & then to #2, not by the way of "OFF".
Best advice is to leave the switch set to both while running to insure both banks can be charged.

Except if you have a cell go bad in one battery.

Then the good battery will try to bring the bad one up and in turn kill both batteries. This is why I don't like this idea and install BEP Cluster switches.
