I just got an older 25hp outboard motor. Unsure of the year at this moment but I know it needs an oil change and I don't know much about motors. I am looking for a mechanic that works on outboards. Please let me know

if its 2 stroke engine gas and oil mix you don't have any oil to change. you can change the lower unit oil ,on the foot there is 2 screws the 1 on the bottom is the drain and top isfull. remove both plugs to drain and fill through the lower plug also till oil comes out the upper this shows its full. hope this helps. if you need more help let me know.

While pirate@40something made the foot oil change sound very simple, there is a few things to be aware of.



Using the correct size screwdriver to get the plugs out is important. Not using the correct size screwdriver can get you in trouble with a striped plug.



I bought a S-K screwdriver many many years ago just to fit those plugs. It is very large and has a square shank. A 3/8in open end wrench will fit the square shank.



You put the screwdriver in the slot and then pop the end of the screwdriver with a hammer to shock the threads of the plug. Then put the wrench on the shaft and turn the plug to break it loose.



It's like using a hammer impact driver, but I haven't seen one of those with a big enough blade to fit the screw. That doesn't mean it's not out there. I just have not looked for one in many many years.
