Default 24 volt Trolling motor wiring

I picked up a 24 volt trolling motor (Motorguide) for my Keywest 1720 that has a factory 3 prong plug connector for a trolling motor. My question is, doI have to do anything special to plug the TM in or will the factory wiring accept the 24 volt TM? Also, what is the dual battery wiring sequence?

Thanks in advance.

Using 12V batteries...

(2 or more) Hooked up in parallel = 12V (positive to positive and negative to negative)

Hooked up in series= 24V

3 hooked up in series = 36V

Default RE: 24 volt Trolling motor wiring

under the dash where the factory red and black wire are already there,, the red=positivegoes on 1 battery, the black=negative goes on the other battery, then there is a jump wire that goes between the 2 batteries 1 on positive and 1 on nevative,, on the tm end, in the boat looking at the plug, there are 3 pins, raise the flap and use a volt meter to determine which pin is positive and which is negative, at the same time you are assuring there is 24v at the plug,,, when you connect the female end that came with the boat you are olny using 2 of the wires, cut the orange wire off and tape it up, use only the red and black. plug it in and you should be good to go,,, hope this helps....:usaflag
