Lil' Scout (8/20/2008)I married my wife in her church in Poland, but we had to do our civil service Denmark. (long story)

We drove from Gaeta, Italy up to Copenhagen, got hitched, drove around Scandinavia, back down to her hometown near the Ukraine border and back down to Italy. No schedule. Wehad a blast.
That's way cool too.

If you want to call this a road trip....

At 19 yo(1967) my folks, Dad worked for Pan American Airways, wasstation manager in Saigon. I choose to stay behind in Miami Springs, FLand both maintain our house, take care of the bills and go to school. My schedule got screwed up so I dropped out for a semester and decided to fly to Saigon. Left on a Sat morning and on to Guatemala, spent the night up with friends and to a soccer game Sunday, departed that night on to Mexico City and to San Francisco. Spent the night there and caught a flight to Tokyo by way of Anchorage, the next mid morning. Tied up with two guys in the Army (they were happy to see a round eye not in the military) and we hit the town all night. Next day on to Bangkok and was there a night and hit the night life. Next day into Saigon, arrived at about 4PM for a final leg, and up way past midnight. One way trip lasted 5 days and 4 nights, with cat naps on the plane. Back then Pan Am could not fly nationally and had to depart the US and return, hence the long way to California.

At 19? Now that would be a road trip in anybody's book.

The funny thing about it was when I joined the Navy (1969) , I was asked if I had been in a number of countries, Viet Nam was one of them. When I told them yes I've been to Viet Nam in 1967, I was asked for what reason and when, I told them....on vacation, they just looked at me like a deer would stare at headlights, and responded, "on vacation"...."yes on vacation" and left it at that.
