Default Truck Decisions?

My delima!

I currently havean 08 F150 with HD suspension,or what yankees would call snow plow addition, lol. It is 7 lug, and weighs more than a standard F150. It is a super cab with an 8' bed, towing package and the 5.4. only maintnance I have had in the last 60,000 miles is worn out tires. I bought it with 75,000 miles on it, and now hovering around 135,000.
I am torn between spending $ on it, or upgrading? I am way overdue for the 100,000 service, this motor has the 2 piece pain in the$#& plug in it, or I would have already done it. So $500 for stealet 100,000 service, plus one wheel sensor to replace and a balance. I am pretty certain there are a few front end components that need changed. You can just tell if you have put as many miles on a vehicle as I have in the last 15 yrs, lol. Someone before me or a service center have strioed the oil plug. I have been very fortunate in that in the last 18+ oil changes I have done on it, a little teflon tape and no leaks. I need that fixed. And I want some wheels when I need tires, if I do, these trail grapplers have 38,000+ on em and look less than half worn, lol. I have a K&N intake and also want a true Dual exhaust ran.

So, do I spend $3k+ on it, have what I want with 140,000+ miles on it and not much of a payment? Or do I spend $35k+ and have no miles and better fuel economy, and spend $1000 on intake and exhaust, have what I want and a new payment?

Im torn, I could pay mine off this year, but I make money, via tax deduction and depreciation every year for the business, so not worth paying it off, lol. Decissions Decisions?

As aside note, looking at either ecoboost, 4x4 8' bed in a supercab, or tundra supercab 4x4 8' bed. I preffer rubber floors and vinyl seats, but all the other goodies, lol. I pull a medium trailer full oftools most everyday, and a 18' cc every other weekend. So it will be my work horse, not my show truck. I put 50,000 miles on a truck every year, so I need reliability, and low maintnace!

Thanks for your ideas and opinions!

I'd Keep it, The new truck your gonna wanna keep clean and not scratch it up... Of course 2-months in on the new truck your getting a scratch or something on it.. Also, Take it to a good mechanic shop instead of the stealership and get it all fixed..

Yea, stealer ship has a flat rate for replacing the plugs and tune up. With the 2 piece factory plugs in it, they seperate while removing. Thus requiring a special removal tool and many hours at a diffrent mechanic! So that said, im at the Toyota stealer now, lol. I am still torn though, and seeing how I am not dead sey on a new one, won't hurt my feelings if I don't get the deal I want!

not sure what kind of mileage you're getting with the f-150 but my cousin has the tundra with the 5.7 and hes only getting about 13 in the city but he does have 20" rims and nitto terra grapplers.

If you can write off the truck for business, might as well get a new ecoboost truck and enjoy the 22MPG or so. you obviously drive alot of miles, might as well enjoy a nice new truck and the much better fuel mileage. gas isn't going to get any cheaper.

I had a similar decision to make but with mine paid for (99 F250 Powerstroke - 125,000 miles) decided to wear mine out and put the monthly payment for a new one in saveings so I can get the upgades done as I save.

If he had a powerstroke, I would agree with you, but the 5.4, while a damn good engine, is no where near the level of a 7.3 powerstroke.

I miss my 2002 F250 7.3 4x4, it got stolen 2 years ago. since then, I've been driving a 1999 Expedition 5.4 that my father bought new in 1998. it has 186,500 miles on it. Its a good truck and never had a major problem despite my dad not being meticulous on maintenance. but it gets 15mpg and you can tell its on it last legs, its left me stranded once with a spark plug that blew out and I just don't trust it anymore. If I could afford to trade it in for a 2011+ F150 with ecoboost or a 2011+ F250 with the 6.7, I'd do it in a heartbeat and not look back.

Kinda what I am leaning towards! Even though I write most of it off, just chaps my arse knowing how much it costs to build one, and what they charge!

While the Tundra is a fine ride, drove a limited model today, I refuse to pay sticker, made an offer, they didn't wanna bu

dge, so I left. An hour later they were callin askin if I could come in, told em I wasn't budging and dont call back cause I was at Whibbs, lmao. While I was only window shipping as they are not open today. I just dont think I can get the milage I want out of a gas burner, and the price of diesel, cant see gettin one of those either! I think I may put a few thousand in my White beast and drive it till the wheels fall off,

what kind of gas mileage are you getting with your current setup? I agree Diesel is going up again, when i had my 2002 powerstroke it was after the $5 diesel and before the 30mpg trucks came out. used it to pull 7k+ worth of trailer all over the east coast.

I still don't know why someone doesn't make a 1/2 ton with a 4cyl turbo diesel. be able to tow most anything the normal guy needs to tow and would get close to 30mpg.
