Ronald Reagan and the special relationship with the UK

Not sure if any of you saw this, but Ronald Reagan in the early 80s was ready to offer a US carrier (amphibious landing ship) to the UK Government in the event of the UK losing a carrier in the Falklands Wars.

If you don't know, the UK-US has a special relationship that's lasted for more than a few years, although a certain recent US president feels the relationship is less than special, and prefers France. Obviously, it was France who backed up the US in Iraq and Afghanistan....

But could you ever imagine Barry lending a carrier to anyone?

Well, France did support us in the 1700's while UK didn't.
