LED is considered the top. If you want to see for yourself, go to Best Buy and look at Plasma vs. LCD vs. LED all next to each other, and you will see exactly what I mean. Thats why I ended up bying a samsung LED.
Then I figured, spending that much money, why be pissed in a couple years when it's outdated, so I got the 3-D model. Holy shit...bad ass. Goin to a 3-D movies is great, but when you got 55" of projected (vs. reflected picture like at the movies) at the foot of your bed and stuff jumping out at you..damn. There ain't much out in the way of tru 3-D blu-ray or cable programming for it yet, but there will be. And you can also have it make anything you watch on TV or disk be synthesized 3-D. Not as good as tru obviously, but still pretty cool, especially with nature shows on HD channels Hmmm...have yet to run some porn thru it! |

Both of them are an upgrade from the standard tv's we grew up with, but one thing to keep in mind is if you're planning on moving.
Plasma TV'S cannot be tipped or tilted, or it will damage the innards. If you purchase a plasma, KEEP the original crate/box/container, as it will have a "tip & tell" small gauge on it, and you can utilize it in your next move. If you toss it, the next one custom built might cost you upwards of $300, and if you choose NOT to use one, your movers' could damage it & be long gone before you know what happened. and you have no recourse in filing a claim. Not really an answer to your question, but still good info to know in making your decision BB |

Do not buy plasma, they burn out, if you watch a program that has the sign that runs across the bottom of the screen like espn with scores it will burn in the screen and you willl see it when watching other channels. Doesnt last long. They are the cheap flatscreen

This is a totally false statement. Do the research online and you will see that for 50" and up, plasma is still the best bang for your buck. I have had a 50" inch Panasonic for 5 years now without any of the claims of burn-in. This may have been true 10 years ago, but today's Plasmas will last you at least 10 years. Each tv has its niche.
Plasmas for movies (home theater), past paced sports....Fastest refresh rate, and best contrast. Plasma tvs actually produce light at the pixel, which means that when the pixel is off it is black.......LCD and LED both produce light via a flourescent bulb (led light for led tvs but still lcd screen) and reflector in the back of the tv.....next the lcd screen opens the correct pixels to allow the light to pass through....but the bulb is always on full blast and it can't really stop all the light leakage to provide a true black. Lcd helps this problem some by only turning on portions of backlight at a time. LCD or LED are good if you want to save a little power, or if you want to use it as a computer or game monitor - because of possible burn in issues. Even the best led's can't match the contrast and refresh of a good plasma.....(still over $2500 for a good one....pioneer) ..but if you leave your movies/games on pause, or watch channels with "bugs" or lower third banners, they may burn in to your cheaper plasma tvs. |

I just bought a samsung 40" LED yesterday at the exchange for $1089, I love it. I looked at every tv they had in the place and the samsung led was hands down the best picture quality
