PennFish (9/4/2008)Now on local TV this morning they were saying the terminals in Freeport and Panama Citywere dry. The problem THEY say is the disruptions of the barrage traffic in the intercostal waterways. So the price might not change until they get some gas in the tanks, unless astation hauls it in by truck and then a short term price jump. Just MHOP.

Hey no barrages, no gas, use what you got locally then wait for some more.
Up and down the coast, this is what happens. Most of the gas along the gulf coast is transported by barge through the ICW. After a storm the Coast Guard does not allow commercial traffic until the ICW has been swept for possible debris obstructions. This takes a few days after a storm. Therefore once a ports tanks are dry after a storm, they must wait for a new shipment.

This info comes from a family member that is both in the CG reserve and manages gas stations. Our gas in our area comes by barge from Mobile. So when we have a storm in our area, that's why we run out and do not get more gas for a few days.

I drove down by the Freeport terminal to see if the boat ramp was usable just 2 days ago and there was a huge gas barge and tug sitting there unloading! How many barges does it take to get enough gas on hand to lower the price a few cents???

...and ironically, didn't most of the barge traffic divert here when the hurricane came in? Guess moving empty freight is the new way of doing business.:banghead
