Anyone use them?
Any increase inMPG? What vehicle do you have them on? I don't want to hear what the company says, I want real use figures if any. |

My Tahoe has a 5.3 L engine. The K&N filter was dirty so I replaced it with a Fram filter and lost 1.2 mpg. I only have the replacement element from K&N which I cleaned and reinstalled just to see and I regained the 1.2 mpg.

There are a lot of people that say that it helps and those that say it's a waste of money. On many vehicles, if you simply over oil the filter just slightly, it will foul/dirty upyour Mass Air Flow Sensor and cause you to loose even more MPG's. For me, it's a waste of money. Engineers that get paid way more than me todesign the engines and setups the way they do for a reason.

I cant tell much difference, maybe a slight gain in MPG but not much (maybe 1ish if that)and I get 12/14 so I need all the help I can get!!, I have one on my 97 Land Cruiser which has a lift, snorkle, winch bumper and 33inch tires, and the snorkle helped more than the K&N, good luck

Ron, I first started using them back in 88 when I started racing motorcycles. They definitely made a difference on the VFR750RR and so I've continued to use them on just about every vehicle I've had since. The boat equivalent for the Cats in my boat definitely made a difference and the one I put in the new Yukon seem to have increased my mpg about 1 mph on average.
Even if its all in my head - which I doubt - they still will save you money by not having to replace every 5k miles or so. 1 cleaning and oil kit will last for several cars/boats for years. |

I've used them on every vehicle I've owned since about 95. Just the cost or replacement filter's was enough for me. For my new Duramax, it's $85 for a paper Fram and was $65 for a K&N that's lifetime. I did the calculations on them back when and there was always a .75 to 1.5 mpg increase. If you have a flow guage on your vehicle, you can see the difference....
I used them on race engines as well. I have them on the twin Detroits on the boat as well.

Funny you asked this (this just happened last week). Ron, I have several friends that swear by them so last week I went to another friend "John Boyden" that owns Speed Unlimited on New Warrington Road. I went to school with his son and have known John for almost 30 years. I have a 2002 F150 Supercrew with the 5.4 Triton (80,000 miles),and went to John with my usual 50 questions. After talking to him, I ordered the Cold Air K&N,and then got him to order the Cad back duel exhaust, and the MaxMicroTuner Superchip. Within 2 day all had arrived, so John set up Mike at Muffler Masters on Pace to do the duels. Once I spoke with Mike I got him to go ahead and install the K&N. I picked the truck up and took it back to John's place and he programmed the chip. I got in the truck, and it performed like a brand new vehicle. The performance was amazing, and I found myself having to back off of the peddle because of the ease of the truck reaching peek speeds in and out of traffic. I am going to run through 3 tanks of fuel (Johns suggestion) check the mileage and average for a MPG, but I can tell you already (after 3/4 tank of fuel) that this machine is running way more efficient than it was... If your interested, I can give you the final results once that 3rd tank of fuel is used. In my opinion, it is the best bolt on performance move that I could have made. Tight lines, T

I have the K & N filter you buy from Advance Auto Parts, not the whole intake kit... On my 04 Tacoma, 3.4L v6 I gain about 1.5 mpg... But stock filters for it are $18 every 6000 miles, so $60 for 100,000 miles is a great trade-off
