Yea the old timers used to mix deer brains with the scrambled eggs at camp when I was a boy. I haven't seen it since. And I knew 3 of my great grand parents. All 3 on my dads side. Still got one left. She is 98. That makes 5 generations of us. Got our pic in the paper for it when my son was born. |

Iknew my grandmother's (on my mother's side) mother and father back in the 60s. They both died in the late 1960s.
My grandfather would mix eggs and brains but I think he used cow brains. Didn't really matter cuz I wasn't gonna eat it. |

I had the wonderful opportunity of knowing two great grandparents, and having a great grandmother in my life until my early teens. She was a very special person, and a fiesty old woman with a love of life. My children, who are all in their 20's have two living great grandparents, and my two grandkids have the unique and special privilege of knowing two great-great grandmothers.

Only one, Granny Burke who was born in 1856, Stantonville, TN. She lived with us her last ten years or so and was a real character. She remembered when the "Damnyankees" (One word for her), invaded Tennessee and ransacked their farm stealing their one remaining cow, chickens and geese. She hated anyone from the north as she remembered the hard times of Re-construction, Their home was what is now Shiloh National Monument.
She would doze off in her rocker by the coal burning stove we had in the kitchen. My brother and I knowing her hatred for Lincoln, would put a Lincoln head penny on the arm of her chair, so when she awoke and saw it would go into a rant. Her husband, commonly known as Pappy Burke was a Methodist Minister, circuit rider, who had small congregations over that area of South Central Tennessee. She had many stories about him. I wished I had recorded some of her tales. :usaflag
