Wow, work or a day and come back to quite a lively discussion. Too much for me to cover here, but I will say that some of the posts made HUGE leaps from statements to conclusions. Buckethead, let's get together this week. Thursday or Friday will work for me. Anytime. Only thing I ask is this, come to the table without a pre-conceived idea about who I am. I am not the person you speak of in your posts. Go back and look at my post history. I don't believe you will be able to come to some of your conclusions about me if you look objectively at my posts. Nope, I'm not perfect nor do I believe Christians to be perfect. In fact, I'll concede that some professing christians have totally screwed up your opinion of christians. They embarrass Christ and they will be held accountable for their actions. At the end of the day, I can still like you even if we are 180 degrees out. Not that you need me to like you, but just to say that I am not personally offended by your belief or disbelief.



Oh, and one more thing. Wanna guess what I spent last Memorial day weekend doing? I was down by Portifino with a dozen people helping get vehicles unstuck, giving rides to the main beach area, and walking the beach with water to re-hydrate those who had been battered by the storms that struck that weekend. Guess how many gays and lesbians I saw? 1000's. Guess how many straight I saw? about a dozen. Guess how many I preached to? None. Guess how many said I was a bigot? None. Several actually wondered why we were not shouting with a megaphone. Our answer was simple. We were there to build bridges...not condemn. Do I think same sex stuff is wrong? Of course. I can't believe only parts of the Bible...or i'd be a hypocrite. At least give me credit for trying to be consistent. BUT...I also put feet to my faith and tried to live what I believe. On that weekend I simply wanted to be where Jesus would have been...right in the midst of a crowd of gays and lesbians. I believe we had some great discussions that weekend. In fact, I'll see you there again this year. Only this time, I'll have more people from my church trying to live out our faith. Blessings to you.

very, very, very well put wes and much easier to comprehend this time around. I agree with many points as in restrooms being single occupancy only (but then again I'd hate to stand in line for an hour to take a leak). However I'm not giving up premarital sex or contraceptives. And wes you have no idea how "close" to god I am, my problem isn't with god, its with the church, parts of the bible, and a small percentage of christians. My observation is that theres three different tiers of christians...you have those at the bottom tier that believe in god, the bible, etc. but don't openly go out of their way to preach to people, or goto church often. You have those in middle tier like yourself and lobsterman, who spread the word of god and get heated about topics from time to time. Then you have those on the top tier that shoot abortion doctors while they're at church, or like eric rudolph who blew up abortion clinics and the 1996 olympics because "Rudolph declared that his bombings were part of a guerrilla campaign against abortion and the "homosexual agenda"." I bet if you and eric rudolph sat down and had a conversation about all of this you would think he was a nut job, but he would probably think you were a bad christian because you wouldn't help him build bombs in his basement to blow up the olympics.

bigamefishr, I'm gonna have to say that the top tier you speak of is beyond the bounds of christianity. They don't have the right to wear his name if their heart is like that. A Christian is one who is a Christ follower. That's not Jesus. Kind of like me saying Marines are a bunch of death mongering hot heads looking for something to destroy. Well, a few are, but not the guys I hang out with. I'll go to the wall with them and they with me. I'd trust them with my life. Those few do not represent the Corps...even though they wear the uniform.
