Default Hernia Surgery Question

Anyone have any experience with hernia surgery? I had it done 2 weeks ago and have a couple of questions. Before the surgery I would have random pain in my lower abdomen. It would occur at different times; walking, bending, lifting, etc.. It was kind of a quick stabbing pain that would last for a few seconds then subside. I know that I am supposed to be sore and that it will take a while to heal as the Dr. had to open me up as opposed to using a scope. My main question is that I still have an occasional sharp pain, same feeling as before the surgery, in the same area. Is this normal or is this telling me that the mesh didn't hold? Is it possible that there is something else wrong? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Boo

Default hernia

I had the surgery a few years ago and experienced the same thing. Dr told me it was normal and the pain eventually went away. It did take a while for it to disappear completely though

Talking A friendly reminder...

I still get it, 3 years later.

I usually know that I have done way too much. Moved a piano the other day, felt it. The mesh will shift if you push it, think of it as a friendly reminder you are not superman.

You barely got your staples out. Tell your doc about it though. Just remember that you CANNOT pick up heavy stuff for at least 6 weeks. I had quad hernia the first time and had another 2 years later. The same as you cut me wide open. I never experienced the sharp pain like you said though. Just have to watch what you do from now on. No lifting heavy stuff. Good luck with your recovery..

Hey Boo, I had a small one Dr'ed on in my navel. I had my appendix removed and then it poped out. I cant remember doing anything like bending or lifting. The incision was like 1/4 inch and the hernia poped out like a golf ball. They "fixed" it with a screen, its small but the cut hurt like heck. I guess the cut through the muscles was the pain. Today I still have a hernia, off to the side, I dont get any pain there but my lower left flank in the front above my hip bone gets a PING after I eat. Im not sure of its part of the problem but it never did it before!

Im going back within the month to have him recheck me. Its been a good 2 years since the surgery.

Im like you, I want to know from others what they have had go on. Kidney stones, appendix.... I can tell yall what your gonna experience! LOL
