Hey guys I have gotten myself in a jam. I am replaceing my Hubs in my GMC seirra 4wd and the first one went smooth but the other side will not come off. I have all the bolts removed but it seems the axle is stuck in the splines. Anyadvice/ help would be great.

well...
My experience has been that they are very tight fit in the assembly that they bolt into. Any corrosion on or in the assembly makes it VERY hard to seperate them. My f350 (which has the solid front axle, but similar hub bearing assembly unit) was used as a snowplow truck up north before I bought it. I replaced the hub bearings on it, and it was PURE MISERY! How I finally got them to seperate, was to apply pressure with a pry bar on any crack/crevice i could gain purchase into, and then hit the assembly from behind with a blunt air chisel. After moving around to various points, and repeating numerous times, and spraying ALOT of PB Blaster on it, I finally got both loose. They can be a real pain in the a$$ tho........ |

Basically just like the good doctor just said, lots of PB Blaster, patience for it to work and persuasive coaxing with a big hammer

not sure which year you have but i just changed both fronts on my 03 Z71 a few months ago. to get the hub loose i loosend the 3 bolts to where i had about an 1/8 in gap between the bolt head...then took a mall and start to tap on each bolt till it started moving...then loosened them a little more and repeat...once i got to the point that the axle shaft was stopping me from moving i took a large rubber mallet and was able to get the shaft to move in the splines...then i was home free.

Being a mechanic i would suggest pb blaster also.. You will probably have to tap the axle out with a hammer.. Just dont beat on it really hard. Just hit lightly and it will come out. BUT PB BLASTER does wonders... You prob wont even have to tap it...
