JoeZ (11/19/2008)I like the fact that Spurrier is out there looking for a challenge.
He could walk into Tennessee, reload, and win a title -- at least have a shot.
Instead, he's at one of the worst (historcially) places to recruiut in the Southeast. He's got Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech all within 3 hours of him PLUS the real talent can go anywhere they want, why Columbia, S.C.?
He's douche bag from what I've been told by friends in Augusta (at Augusta National) but I'd hire him as my coach if I wanted to build a college team.
Yeah, while he wa HBC at UF we always said "He's a douchebag alright,... but he's our douchebag!" He always played good football, never complained about a 'whoppin', though he'd complain about a close one once in awhile. He's always good for college fottballthough, sorta the anti-bowden. Both though are personalities and are good for the game, like them or not.

My guess, he retires this year or next (I think he's 63), is bandied about for another coaching job for a couple years,... but plays golf, enjoys his retirement, maybe tries to be a part time commentator, but doesn't like it much, doesn't do too well (sorta like the NFL)and fades into coaching legend.

Everything I've learned about Spurrier in the past 4 years has come from within Augusta National.

Rumor has it that after 8 years of membership there you can come back and play one round a year even as a nun-member. He's waiting for 8 years.

Hootie Johnson -- So. Carolina grad and former National chair -- is a big reason why Spurrier went there to begin with. He cares about the football program but he's not dumb and wants the best life for himself after coaching he can manage.

I've walked National, played 18 there on media day -- shot 123 thanks for asking -- and I'd coach South Carolina and take weekly ass kickings to paly there once a year.

He'll be around a while but unfortunately, I think Bowden will be around longer. That guy just won't die.

Right. Since you spend all your time on this message board, that tells me you have a life. Seriously, Gator fans were in hiding for the last ten years until you lucked into a title against an inferior Big Ten opponent. You guys act like you've had sustained success for say, oh I don't know, 14 straight seasons. Do that, then talk shit. I assume you guys will probably roll Alabama and then blow out some crappy opponent like TT, so congrats in advance. If Bama wins, I won't even say anything, it'll speak for itself, rough and tough defensive football is not only more fun to watch (in my opinion), but it wins the big games. I hope you truly love Urban Meyer and his mickey mouse gadget offense, its a trend, and just like other gimmicks, it will be figured out, and good 'ole run the football will prevail.

They all died last week -- even my goldfish. Thanks for bringing that up. It's still very painful. I miss poor Spots the goldfish, he was nice to talk to.
