The ring you are referring to is brass and called a farrel. The pipe must be all the way into the valve with the farrel on it. The yes tighten the compression fitting with two wrenches. Until it does not turn at all. This squeezes the farrel (soft Brass) smaller, and it captures the copper tubing.

Once installed properly, you will never get the farrel and the copper apart again.

Youcan also buy a tool that will flare the end of the copper and put on a flare fitting. (Not in that order) It is pretty simple to use. It is a clamp with a pointed piece and the two are threaded. Put the clamp on the pipe and then screw the pointed piece into the pipe causing it to flare.

Good luck!!

ahahah... Ron, it was an easy fix... Until the coupler came off... O well it's good now.. The next chain of events is the guest/kids bath... Fixing the toilet... I'm on my way again to lowes to get a toilet line to hook it up... Lets see what happens in there.. I'll report back later... If no report, well then you know something bad happened...

edit, BTW I do have a pool and it's big enuff... 29000 gallons... I actually had to go outside and drain it abit this moroning..

I letmy pool stay over filled from rain and let it evaporate back down to proper level. If I pump it down to normal level, I lose chemicals.

Good luck with the commode, get the braided steel flexible line. It is easiest to use and does not rupture.
