The EAAA will again attempt to hold another public stargaze at Ft Pickens
Battery Worth this Friday, Aug 19 begining at dusk. We haven't had very good luck with the weather this year but hopefully this one will be blessed with clear skies for us. Bring the family and come on out to view some of the wonders of the night sky. Dr Wayne Wooten should be there to give constellation tours and answer questions. Bring you own scope if you'd like, all are welcome. Rick Hogue EAAA |

Man we have alot of hobbies in common...fishing, shooting, rc planes, and now star gazing!
I dont have a scope now but for my 13th Birthday I got a little 4.5" reflector that I spent hundreds of hours freezing my rear end off on those cold clear KY winter nights. I have a four year old, is she big enough to look through a scope or binoculars? Been wanting to take the girls out to check this out. |

Yes, bring her on out, we'll find something she can look at/through. Lots of folks bring their young'uns out and that's what we're all about, to open their eyes to things out of this world.
I'm afraid Saturn will be too low to get a good view of and Jupiter doesn't rise until after my bedtime this month so we'll be looking at objects in the Milky Way. Lots of very interesting nebula and star clusters in it. Come on out weather permitting. Rick PS: You forgot to add the adjective "expensive" in front of the word "hobbies". Yes, the ranger booth is unattended after dark. But if you get there before sunset they'll still be there. You will have to pony up the $8 to get in if you don't have the NPS pass. If they have any questions just tell them you're going to the stargaze.
Check this thread before you go out and I'll post if the gaze gets cancelled due to weather. Let's hope for clear, cool skies. Rick |

They have plenty of telescopes that you can look through. I like going to this. Hope the weather holds out.

Well, the Pensacola Clear Sky Clock http://cleardarksky.com/c/PnsclFLkey.html shows it's looking good for tonight, we just may be able to pull this one off. Check this thread before you head out if it looks questionable and I'll post any cancellation as soon as I know. Plan to come on out for a telescopic tour of the Milky Way and the interesting objects in it.
Skeeter spray is a must but please don't spray near the telescopes, the stuff can coat the mirrors and lenses. Battery Worth is on the right just past the camp store. Rick Last edited by shootnstarz; 08-19-2011 at 10:12 AM. |

I am going to try to make this. Just to double check, is it OK to bring my 7 year old son and 5 year old daughter. Both are well behaved and interested in science.
