Default Disc vs Tiller

I have been thinking about buying a 5' rotary tiller for my tractor but I have never used one. I have used discs in the past, which one do you prefer and why? I plant about half an acre.

I can never find used 5' tillers local, been watching Craigs List for months.

I have also looked fer a 5 ft'r....A buddy has a 6 ft'r but 1 ft is alot of difference fer my tractor!!! I use a 5 ft disc and it works but tillers are better to prepare/plant the seed bed....not to mention it makes plots and gardens smoother...It just depends on ifin you want to spend upwards to 1K more fer a tiller then a disc.:letsdrink

me and my dad use a brake plow first then we come back and disc it 2 or 3 times .it works the soil right for planting for us.

I have a 34 hp Kabota I just bought. A friend of mine who has the same tractor told me to get 5' minimum. He bought a 4' and traded it in cause it didn't cover his tracks.

the tiller is going to give you a better seed bed. the tiller is actually mixing your soil and amendments. where as the disc is pretty much cutting it under.

Try Fastline,Tractorhouse,USFarmer. All good sight`s for used equip. Hard to find piece locally. Tiller`s are not the best for new ground. Stump`s and roots are hell on the tiller not to mention your tractor`s PTO.
