Default Cruise / Vacation Help

Ok.. I have never taken a cruise nor has my wife. We also have never had a real vacation, I am looking for tips or advice on taking a cruise w/kids.
We do not have passports so I was thinking maybe the virgin islands?
But it's not a requirment to be a cruise
Thanks Mike

Lots of food, fun and relaxation. Turn the kids loose. Plenty for them to do. Of course if they are old enuff. I have been on Holland America and Princess. Both cruises were great. Looking forward to going later this year or first part of next year. Bring a nice outfit or two for the formal dinners. If you drink do it in moderation I easily ran up a 1000.00 bill on my last one. Drinks aren't cheap. Have fun........

I have been on the Carnival Fantasy and Carnival Elation. Both top notch cruises to Mexico, 4 days on ship and 2 days on land. Great food, lots of food, and plenty of stuff for kids to do.

You do need a passport for this cruise.

1. Contact the cruise line of choice and inquire questions to the Cruise Director who will answer ALL questions.
2. When booking excursions inquire which ones are closest to the port. This allows for more time to chill and no 3 hours bus rides (One way).
3. Buy the kids the "Soda Fountian Card". This will allow several trips for soda without paying individually.
4. Get a passport anyway. I am almost postitive it is a requirment.
5. Your room key will be your "Ship to Shore Card". This is what is used to pay for everything on the boat. This card will also gain you access off and on the boat.
6. By your wine(if you like it) before you leave port through the cruise line director. It ends up being cheaper and you can have it on the boat. Liquer bought by the bottle on the boat will be stored until you disembark.
7. You are allowed to bring beverages in limited quanities on the boat. Check with the cruise director for the excact amount.
8. Buy Adult beverage" tickets before leaving port (online). You will come out ahead.

Personal Note: Our cruise was approx $120 a day in adult beverages. That was mroning until night for two people. It is truley a goooood time, but it was just the wife and I. I have no idea about what it is like with children but, there was constantly things going on for the kids according to the daily schedule that is left in your room daily.

I've been on most of the major cruise lines , Royal Carribean and Princess are the way to go if you want the best. If you're taking kids look into Dinsey, we have a trip booked on their Brand New boat next winter...

We went out of Mobile, AL on the Elation in 2010 to Cozemel, 5 night cruise. No passport needed. It was so much fun and so cheap that we went on another Carnival cruise right before Christmas out of Jacksonville on the Fascination to the Bahamas. no passport needed. I must admit the first cruise I spent way too much money on photos and booze. The second cruise, I didn't purchase any photos and smuggled in my own booze. We put down $100 towards out next cruise while on board ship and we have 3 years to decide on which cruise to take, If you do this lil trick they give you your $100 bucks back as a on board credit. Have FUN!!!

We've been on Carnival and are going on our first cruise with Disney in April. Disney is higher, but I think our 2 year old will enjoy it. Ditto on the "soda cards". The drinks and shore excursions are where the money can fly from you wallet. You can make it as affordable or expensive as you want. All in all, very fun.

We took a cruise out of Mobile about 6years ago on Carinvals Old boat..It was nice, but it did shake sometimes being older...
