Default Cheap People

It amazes me how cheap people can be sometimes when it comes to eating out. I talked to my soon to be sister-in-law who works at Outback, and we were discussing how busy today had been since it was Mother's Day. I hoped it would have meant more tips but, nope. $4 on a $36 check (not horrible), but $8 on a $90+ check or my personal favorite $5 on a $103?! Come on! It would have been insulting at 10% but to just leave $5? Why not just leave some pennies or lint out of your pocket?

Ok, jumping off of my soapbox now...... carry on.

That sucks. Sometimes if I dine by myself my tip is just as much as my bill. I bet they just blame it on the gas prices.

i worked at outback for seven years in mobile and worked a couple of mothers days. the people who never go out to eat crawl out of the sewers on mothers day. i waited tables for a year and was lucky enough to be a bartender the rest of the time. its amazing how during the week nice people eat out and at the bar your getting 5 bucks from one person. waiting tables ya get 5 bucks for six people. outback is still one of the best chains to work at.

I honestly believe it should be a crime to pay servers less than minimum wage. I always try to tipcommensuratewith service received. For anexceptional server, I will gladly leave more than 15%. Last time I was at Road House, I gave a busboy a tip because he had such a great attitude for a young man doing what many deem a menial job. The problem I have is exceptional servers are becoming rare, and Iam seeing more who are not even adequate, and I have a hard time rewarding substandard service. That said, I would hate to be in food service on mother's day, and those who have to suffer the ordeal should get hazard pay.

15% is the current recommended tip for a small party who receives decent service. If I get better than decent, I will leave more as I feel appropriate. I can't say what the base wage should be, only it should be at least as anyone else in the workforce could expect for similar skills. There are some GREAT servers out there who should do well in tips and wages.

all sounds reasonable. i drove truck for quite a few years, not local stuff...the real deal. driving the country waiting for the bridge to hawii so i could deliver there (believe it or not, people got suckered on that statatement alot.)

ok, i walked into this old truckstop, the meal was good, but the waitress sat on her ass bitching about "f-ing" drivers, never leave any good tips, cursing and putting down my bro's at the wheels, almost drops my plate on the table...STILL bitchin to the other waitress's WHILE at my table...guess i'm cheap cause she didn't make a buck off me. same place a month later, in the days that it WASN'T acceptable to have a male waiter, i had one. i didn't feel right cause i was used to a lady taking care of me and with only seeing the road thru a bug coated windshield, i wanted to see a cutie...so i wasn't in favor of a guy serving me. i have to admit, he busted his ass better than any lady, kept a great attitude, even while he was getting shit from drivers, and made some serious money in the hour i was there. now, i prefer waiters over waitress's because of that reason.

if someone's on that kind of job and dont enjoy it, they should move on, BUT...if they do, it'll show and everyone will see it and "most" will prove they see it. i hope that makes sense.

All of my kids at one time or another worked in the food service business. I understand that they worked basically for tips. I tip at 20%, but I have rules. I start at 20%, but based on the level of service it can go down. Sitting there for a long period waiting for someone to take my order, running out of my drink, not being asked how is my meal or just generally being ignored after the meal is delivered can cost the server tip money. But the point is when I sit down I am planning to tip high, only the server can effect that.

i wish i could get tips too. crap have my job is being a waiter in some way or form. then again i'm glad cause the hospital might pay me less then they do now.

my dad is the worst tipper in the world. no matter how much the bill is $2. my ex wife used to bitch when we would go to dinner with him. she spent a lot of years waiting table getting through school. that is the only thing she taught me that i remember.
