Default Buck & Bass

Went by Buck & Bass yesterday to pick a 1500 yard spool of Excel fishing line. Bill came to $9.60 something and when I presented my credit card I was informed that they did not take credit cards for purchases less than $10. I immediately handed them $20 and while the sale was being rung up asked if this was something that the public was going to see more of. The owner was leaning on the counter and commenced to give me all the details of how much a transaction cost and how it just was not worth it with small purchases. He poor mouthed to the point I just grabbed my line and change and departed. As I was leaving I looked back to where the owner parks and saw two huge late model SUVs, a Titan P/U, and a smaller SUV. Over the years I have become aware that this is a Mom & Pop & Kids operation so I would assume that they were all family vehicles. Really looks like they are going under.

Now my question - Is this something that is more widespread than just this one store? Is it getting more common?

I have never had a good experience there . I went in there one day to window shop for a new pistol and once I told the guy I was just lookin right now. He walked off without saying another word. Piss poor customer service. I'm all about supporting local businesses but I will never spend a dime in there again.

If you come in my store and by a 1.00 part I will take your card. I appreciate any business I can get.

Isn't it a rule of cc companies that business not do that? And if reported can loose their ability to process that card?

Wirelessly posted

They are in violation of their card processing agreement. Merchants are not suppose to do that.

I spent $9.89 in there a week ago, the younger guy told me the same thing. The older woman spoke up and said that it would be fine.

I visited another "local" store today and experienced the same thing - minimum total to use charge card. I also recently visited another store that simply added a flat, although very small, charge to every purhcase if using a charge card.

Maybe these places need to be reported to the right places. I know when I sell on eBay or other and have the 3/oo fee I add to price ahead of time. These places should simply assume all will use a card and add the cc fee to the items then there would never be a thread in the Internet bad about them and their ways

There is a couple of "no name gas stores" that do that. ( I think it`s to collect tax but not pay it) I see it as a sign that your under $10 business is not wanted! Do what I do. Leave it on the counter and shop some where else.
