grouper22 (12/5/2008)You can't go wrong with Randy Wayne White. Similar to Carl H but better in my opinion.
Even better in my opinion also. Doc Ford kicks ass! He also has a bunch of books out under the name of Randy Sticker.

The old Carl H. books are really good (tourist season, double whammy, strip tease, Native Tongue, sick puppy, skin tight, etc.) Most of his recent work leaves something to be desired.

If you like Florida history and crime novels you also need to try Tim Dorsey. If you read his series you need to start with the first one and read them in order. He is right up there with Hiassen and White in my book.

Bob Morris also writes a pretty good florida based series that takes place across the caribbean and bahamas. It's about an ex-miami dolphin football player who runs an exotic palm farm and goes on crazy adventures with his buddy Boggy, the last surviving descendant of the Carib Indians.

I ordered a few Tim Dorsey novels after I finished the last Hiaasen. Haven't been able to get into them yet, but is Florida Roadkill the first one in the series? I'm going to get a few of those Randy White novels. Just looked him up on amazon. He's got quite a few!
Florida Roadkill is the first one he wrote, but Triggerfish Twist is a prequel that takes place before Florida Roadkill. You can read either one first, it doesn't really matter. He only wrote Triggerfish Twist because he killed off some characters in Florida Roadkill, and wanted to write some more about them. Orange Crush is the only one that wasn't that good IMO, but it was alright. His new book, Nuclear Jellyfish, is about to come out.

Tim Dorsey and Randy Wayne White both have a lot of books out, my library has them all. Along with the entire John D. McDonald collection, the original florida fiction author.
