Default Anybody had cow itch?

Last weekend, while setting up a new stand I cut a vine from a tree and it turned out to be a huge mistake.:banghead I am really allergic to poison ivy and pretty much get it if I come within sight of it. I thought this was poison ivy until the second or third day. It was a rash that completely covered my arms from my wrists up and my entire face.:sick I went to the doctor on monday and was prescribed a steroid to get rid of it. The steroid removed it from my face, but I have had it on my arms for over a week now and there's no slowing it down. My grandfather says its "cow itch". It is a big, dark vine, that usually is growing on trees. It itches like a beast and is stronger than the steroids they gave me. Went back to the doctor this morning and was given a stronger dosage, which will hopefully clear it up.

My whole reason for writing this was to see if anybody has had what they think is "cow itch" before? I know poison ivy is common, but i've never heard of many cases of this.

I don't know but sounds like poison oak to me. Did it make blisters?

I tried to take pics, but it doesn't show up too well. It doesn't make blisters or fester up like poison ivy or oak...it seems more like a raised rash that gets worse when it becomes hot or of course when you scratch it.:doh The crazy thing is that it has continued to spread the entire week, even though I haven't been in the woods to get it again.

Never heard of it. Looked it up and this is what I came up with:

Cowage aka cowhage and cowitch

<TABLE class=luna-Ent><TBODY><TR><TD class=dnindex width=35>1.</TD><TD>a tropical vine, <SPAN class=ital-inline>Mucuna pruriens, of the legume family, bearing reddish or blackish pods.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE class=luna-Ent><TBODY><TR><TD class=dnindex width=35>2.</TD><TD>the pod itself, covered with bristlelike hairs that are irritating to the skin and cause intense itching.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE class=luna-Ent><TBODY><TR><TD class=dnindex width=35>3.</TD><TD>the hairs of the cowage mixed with a liquid vehicle and used to expel intestinal worms.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Doctors won't tell you, but a really good treatment for poison ivy or anything like it is a good strong bleach solution. It dehydrates the blisters.

If you look at the label of benadryl or chlortrimeton they both end in HCl.
