"...The worms you see in trout are a stage of development of a shark tapeworm. Tapeworms have a complex life cycle and pass through several hosts, with the final host being the specific infective target. In this case, the tapeworm eggs are passed out of a shark, hatch onto larvae which are ingested by copepods, the larvae undergo a metamorphosis, and they're passed on up the food chain with more metamorphoses until they find their way into the muscle tissue of a trout. There seems to be a limit to the number that can live within a fish, and the worms seem to thrive in cleaner, saltier water. When the trout gets eaten by a shark, the worm finally morphs into what we know as a tapeworm and actually infects its host.
I've caught quite a few sharks and don't recall ever seeing any worms in em maybe I missed em either that or the ones I caught were'nt good trout fishermen............ |

While I honestly don't know this to be a fact in fish, I do know that in mammals the tapeworms reside inside the digestive tract as mature worms (in most cases).
Echinococcus and certain Taenia tapeworms excluded. I think the worms in the jacks are immature worms, waiting on their definitive adult host to eat them. |

Badfish- look back thru as I think you asked if you can see the worms in trout flesh and there is a trout fillet on here that has them in it. If you didnt see the pic it should answer your question However if you DID see the pic but not the worms PLEASE tell me you don't drive
okeSaltAddict- + whatever the next # is on that! I guarantee you, not doubting Korena or anyone specific, but those who "know" these worms wont live in/effect a human 99.9% surely WON'T roll a few dozen fresh ones up in sushi rice& seaweed with a krabstick and an a sliver of avacado I bet even if they are very avid sushi lovers. Anyone?? On a serious note though, I've always used a pair of large needlenose pliars and grabbed the head, or if I dont see the head, a part of the worm and pulled and even though they do break here and there and you need to regrab they usually slither right out loking thru the flesh like a white ball of yarn slowly getting smaller and sometimes if wound tight leave a "cavity" where they were but they are 100% gone or I'mnot eatin it and if you've ever fished with me you know I'll eat anything ALMOST and usually pester you to do the same if the fish arnt biting OR some sort of occurance/apperance of a critter happens and its your destiny to take one for the team! Anyone know what "kingfishermans vitamins" are and when one must indulge? |

Well, that's where the trouble started. I had been cutting them out, but these last two fish were so loaded, i could not feed them to her, so i had to explain where all the fish went. now she knows... Tunapopper, thanks for the info and pics. That might help me weed them out. |
