Default Why Are we Feeding Flipper?

Okay this was my first summer with a boat and fishing offshore on my own.(I'm glad I got a single outboard and a light hull since fuel went up so darn much)

Why in the world do our fishing regualtions require us to feed 90% of all throwback, undersize fish to the dolphins?

It's beyond my understanding how this is not considered in the regulations,We use circle hooks, vent the fish, revive the fish, release the fish. 99% are eatin within 5 seconds

We need to invent some flipper repellent, a sonar blaster that you hang off your boat and

sends a signal that the dolphin can't stand.

Just how stupid can fishing regulations get?

Default RE: Why Are we Feeding Flipper?

Years ago I was fortunate to be invited out (2 days back to back) fishing (we went as far as about 90 miles...my first way out trip) with Daniel Meredith of Meredith Lumber Company...and a great guy. On the day one of that weekend I learned something from Daniel....I thought the same...why in the hell are we throwing snapper back and flipper gets a free meal. Here is what Daniel passed to me. Flipper will eat...he won't go hungry..believe me he won't. Would you rather feed flipper the shorts, or would you rather have flipper go after what he wants....Feed flipper the shorts and let him get full and he will not be tempted to get "KEEPERS" that day. Flipper will have NO problem catching the 10#ers and up. Flipper won't eat all that is thrown back...when he gets full mealtime is over. So to this day I don't care if flipper eats my throwbacks.... If your Mother cooks a meal, and invites you over, what would you most likely do..go to her house and eat or open your full refrigerator and cook a whole meal.

Remember......WE are the ones out there taking HIS food from him. We are the ones raiding and raping his home.

Compare flipper with the entitlement (damn I hate that word:doh) programs we have...Now which one pisses you off the most.

Last year I had a Flipper from Hell show up. There was already one there looking for a free meal.

Well Flipper from Hell was not satisfied. 3 times in a row he took the legal fish off the line and tore the rig up. Needless to say we were pissed.

when flipper shows up it's a good time to take a lunch break. if you are not fishing he will go way. and if he don't you can take a ride to another spot and come back to that one later when he is gone. works for me. but like ron i don't mind flipper getting a couple. but ya it s*cks when you work hard for a fish and he takes it five feet from the boat! it's makes fishing a little harder when you add flipper to it. owell it's always something. we still live in the best fishing in fl. fish on!!!!!!!

Flipper is a problem. Those dolphins dont just eat the throwbacks, they eat fish on the line too! Lots of good kings are lost to flipper at the pier.

i'm told this works.... never tried it before though...

take a 20 oz. coke bottle and fill it 1/4th full of water (saltwater is fine...) tie a piece of mono on to it and tie 2 16oz leads to it... put the heater from an MRE in it and tighten the cap and toss it over the side...

kaboom. :shedevil

***this is a joke*** but it might work???... but then again, you're littering...
