Yes, pretty much the same thing. Visibly different, but they work the same. Could be several things, clicking both directions is indicative of a bad connection or a bad tilt and trim motor, rarely do both relays go out at the same time, if the engine starts and runs then you have pretty much ruled out a bad connection. What model engine are we working with.
Good thread. My does the same thing on ocassion when I trim at motor but when I trim at throttle it doesn't do it. I'm assuming it's a connection issue at motor
solenoid for up and solenoid for down. You can swap them around and see if the problem moves to be sure. I have a 1996 115 Yamaha 2 stroke and had to replace one a while back. They are mounted under the cowl with three solenoids in a row, two trim and one starter, one jumped off the next.
Yep either solenoid switch or bad connection, if both at the same time prolly connection issue, replace the solenoids either way prolly less than $10 each.
