Lil' Scout (8/20/2008)I hate to see good folks losing their jobs, but West is a joke with their pricing. They don't even seem to be making an effort to compete. 50% off of their price is about the norm anywhere else.
They might be over priced on some stuff but if your flexible you can get some good deals.I knew I was getting a trolling motor but wasn't sure what kind ,all I knew is it had to have at least 70lbs of thrust,I asked if they had anything being closed out or discontinued and the guy found a motor guide saltwater series, bow mount normaly $1089.00 that they were not going to carry any more , but was far from being discontinued by motor guide, and I bought it for $312.00 out the door. They also beat Walmart on stainless rod holders by almost 50%.

The people that own that West marine have always been very nice and helpful to me, plus it's family owned and operated.Thats is the kind of business I would like to see stay around.Sorry to hear there closeing.

I hate to see them go also I am (or used to be) a diehard West Marine shopper, but the last 3 times I went to go buy something they were closed. If they had realistic hours they would have gotten my money.

I don't know how anyone would expect to run a retail business depending on walk in traffic to survive closing at 6pm. Anyone with a job who can afford to have a boat to buy stuff for is just getting off work good by then. If you relied strickly on boat mechanics and riggers you may make it, providing there is enough of them around to support your store. Most of them probably use a wholesale supplier who UPS's to their door step. Shipping is cheaper than paying someone to run back and forth to the marine store all day.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale. Got a new, old stock Penn 7500ss for $60.00 and a Shimano Citica 200D for $28.00. They still have some other reels and auto/manual inflate life vest for cheap.

Thanks again.

Yep, if I neded something in the morning before I got on the water they would be closed. Not to open till like 9, WTH? And then if I try to get something the night before a trip they closed at 6. :banghead:banghead:banghead. Boaters world is the same.

Went! Hopeing to get a couple of items that I have been needing, but waiting for a sale; got there and the guy said that all of the items marked with an orange or blue sticker was 50% off. Well, I walked the entire store, and the items that were tagged were bulk rope, paint - almost to the expiration dates, and kids fishing toys. Bummer. :banghead:banghead Needless to say, I didn't need a buggy for my purchases, which was nata.

I did the same as Mitch. Walk out with the same thing I brought in. They don't close until the end of Sept. so I will do a drive by every week or so.

We were there this morning. =) There wasn't a LOT of stuff on sale, but we didn't walk out empty handed.

I got me a SWEET big tackle storage bag, boat wash /wax, & the last 10' of 3/8" chain they had... the bill came to $44 & Scott asked the lady "did you forget something?" -- because it was so cheap after 50% off... lol :clap Glad we went.
