Default tagging fish

I just don't understand why sailfishermen put so much effort into tagging sails but never look to see if that fish already has a tag. Maybe they do not expect to catch the same fish two times in the same place, but I would think someone on the boat would think to at least spend 4 seconds to see if there is a tag already on the fish.

My father has actually captured three tagged fish in two seperate oceans. A blue, white and stripped marlin. The blue was actually tagged in south florida and was recaptured in Venezuala.

Default tagging

I just think that every show that shows sailfish, these guys just focus on tag then release, they never look to see a tag from someone other than their own effort. I just do not like sail tournaments because it puts the fish in a{cacht me as quick as you can} mode. I d not think this is best for fishing for any species. I have come close to catching a sail, but as of yet I have not got one. I just think if you tag them you need to look for an older tag before you tag it again and let it go without any effort to spot another older tag.
