We used to catch them in Lake Marion S.C. back in the 80's. Never cared for eating them but they are fun to catch.

Fresh water stripers always taste worse than salt for some reason...when based in NJ, we'd catch them right in the surf and man were they good...they DO chase menhaden and that is one of their primary forageswhich could be why some say they taste like blue fish...the big blues on the east coast are VERY oily and that is from the menhaden as well...you can almost make it a sure bet that if theirs a bluefish blitz going on, stripers are directly under the blues getting the pieces parts that drift down to the bottom...

this is a picture of a rockfish i caught at the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel the first part of december 08 it was a little under citation size for Va which is 40 lbs, this on weighed in at 38.6 lbs.

that's a nice cow!!! we've been seeing big schools from just off the golfball in Sandbridge to the mouth of the bay. What part of the tunnel ?
