Telum Piscis (6/25/2008)I am DOD and I use Sherman Cove almost exclusively. I have non DOD/military folks follow me on base behind me all the time. I tell the guard that the person behind me is with me and they check their driver's license and away we go.
We just went thru last weekend with retired mil in the passanger seat. No questions.

Went thru last year towing boat following the retired mil in his car and got reprimanded that the sponser has to be in the tow vehicle.

I am retired Military and keep my old Grady White at Sherman Cove. I just wanted to add that it is a great place to launch. They have a wash rack and they sell fuel there. Little expensive though. But the way gas is it is geting cheaper. Anyway the is a nice little mini gas station on sherman field. At sherman cove there is a little bX annex.

I really enjoy going over there. I have water and electircity and good security for 40.00/mo. I think it is a great deal. Also the people there are great and very helpful. Sometimes I need a little help goting Grady on the trailer and someone always helps.

Well good luck and I know you will like that and place and you could not get much closer to the fish.

It's:

$5.00 for DOD Civilian

$4.00 Active / Retired

Also, the folks in the office told me that I could use the ramp as much as I wanted for $15 a month. Not a bad deal.

Sometimes I want to enlist just to use the boat launch! Glad to see our folks in uniform getting something back for their service!

I am finally heading out of Sherman Cove in the morning with my neighbor. He's a retired army chaplin. We'll be trolling for kings at the bouys. Any advise on leaving and returning to Sherman Cove by boat. Are there rocks in the area?

Thanks,

Jim

Follow the channel markers closely. Rocks aren't a worry, but it is very shallow outside the markers from the launch all the way out to the east of the island at the mouth of the pass.

Just stay in the channel from the dock to the inlet where the old bridge is...and then make sure you go around the buoys properly outside of the entrance and you'll be good. Gets a little shallow...just take it slow til you get in the main channel.

Sherman Cove is a GREAT launch. We used it all the time with our old 88 bayliner when the kids were little. We'll be using it again 100% as soon as we get the carport hightened.((is that a word?)) Best access to the pass in P'cola.

Good fishing to all of you ! :bowdown
