OK I have a new 150 suzuki needs it first oil change. I am not a guy that likes to buy name brand oil becuz the manual says so. I shop at W-mart and figure this motor is the same as any motor. I would like to use a synthetic oil for this motor since it is mostly used as trolling or full out. I could use some advice on this subject. And what about the filter, book said to wait 200 hours. Shouldnt I change it now at 20 hours. Thanks for any help.

I have twin 150's and I changed the oil at 20 hrs and now at every 100 hrs. I do use the Susuzi brand, I have just known too many guys that have had problems using the cheap stuff.

i dont own that engine nor am i a mechanic...but i would suggest to spend the litte bit more money and go with their brand of oil that they say to use in the engine. that way if for any reason you had problems with the motor wile it was under waranty they will have no reason to say the problem was caused by using the wrong oil. just my $.02

There is an industry standard for 4 stroke outboard oil "FCW" so that should be the very minimum standard you use. The way an outboard is run is so different than your car or truck the OB oil has a totally different additive package. Just look at your RPM gauge when you're doing 80 on I-10 & compare that RPM to how you run your outboard... Got a catalytic converter in your OB?

I always use the manufacturer's oil, it's a small price to pay to know I'm taking care of my engine. If your manufacturer doesn't recommend synthetic then why pay more for something that might actually hurt your engine..
