Default Mandatory boater course

Just saw an FWC official on the Florida fishing report and he said that he thought enough boaters voiced their opinion and next year a boaters safty course would be required for all. I personally agree with this. I hope it will get more people on the same page. Maybe they'll even throw in a little fishing related ettiquette. How do you feel about it?

Plenty of folks need it. Watch what happens this weekend.

You will not find me on the water for that reason.

I am all for it providing it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. To me it is another tax or a way for the Gov't to get more money out of the tax paying citizens. That is how I feel about it.

As of Jan. 1, '09 everyone fishing in saltwater will be required to have a federal saltwater fishing license. That's not what they're calling it, but that's what it is.

Just another reason to give up on fishing from a boat. It just kills me that people would actually support this. Federal waters closed ten months out of the year [red snapper], you can't really keep anything while it is open and now a mandatory boating course on the horizon. What a sorry state of affairs.

If the FWC runs the boating course same as the hunter safety course, it may not be a bad thing. I am young enough that i had to take the hunter safety course. It was free, and loaded with very knowlegable local hunters. I was very satisfied with the course, i felt i was able to learn a great deal from being there. The hunter course is or was funded by the Pitman-Robinson Act, so when I took it was free. Hopefully FWC follows the same model.
