Default Lowrance GPS/BOTTOM question????

Good Morning Members, got a lowrance LMS-480M machine and i am getting an alarm once i power it up that says "GPS MODULE NOT RESPONDING". The unit worked fine a few weeks ago. It has an external reciever in front of the console of the boat, and i have traced down all wiring and it seems to be correct. I am at a loss brothern of the sea, any ideas would help. Thank you.

My lcx18 is doing the same thing I went online to Lowrance and found the problem listed! the solution they stated is to reset the unit. They list a soft and a hard Reset option. the soft does not erase waypoints but the hared reset cleans everything out. I have not tried it as I'm away from my boat until july 12th. as sone as I get back down there I'm gonna try it. check with their site and if you can't find contact me . I have the steps printed out. Let me know if it works! Alan

I tried the reset options that Lowance told me and It didn't work !! still have Module not responding. As much as I have head from you other guys I don't think I'm gonna put more money into their products. I bought a Garmin gps and I'll just use the Lowrance LCX-18c as a bottom machine until it goes out completely, then go with something else. Maybe Raymarine??

You guys should get a hold of "biggamefisher". I heard he likes Lowrance products. LOL

-The "gps module not responding" is a common problem with the lowrance units.

I have a lowrance. Had the same thing happen to mine. First check the fuse. There should be 2 one for the unit and one for the NMEA chain. Mine kept blowing fuses. Turned out it was the nmea connector that was the first link in the chain went bad. I took it out and everything worked fine.

Had the same problem with my LMS-332c. The first time reset worked. The second time I was having a problem also with the power cable connection and got one off e-bay no problems seen. (replaced the power cord this past spring) Hope this helps...
