it wouldn't be hard to do if the powers that be would think "out of the box"...love the "cradle of naval aviation" but progress is progress and they're still thinking in the '50's...imho...

I know some people on the north end of the county might not agree with this, but I have always thought that THE improvement that Pensacola needs for increased tourism, improved job market, and overall economic growth for our future is to extend I-110 straight up to I-65. We don't have uninterrupted traffic flow heading into/out of Pensacola on a North/South run. This could increase tourism with improved access to Pensacola, and possibly attract new industries and corporations who could utilize a north/south corridor. I think I have read in the past that this asset is one of the advantages Mobile has over us in attracting prospective employers (yes, I do realize ALL of the other Mobile assets as well: larger port, absence of a sewage plant in the heart of the city, etc...). In addition to the economic improvements, extending I-110 could also be a great benefit for evacuating Pensacola in response to an approaching hurricane, retarded politicians, or all the bears that are invading our neighborhoods lately!

If it helps the bears, I'm for it.

Good idea though, seriously would be huge to have an easy route to get here from B'Ham or Montgomery that didn't involve Brewton on Century.

A Sunday morning update to my original thread. The PNJ did an excellent job on Saturday and Sunday covering the tournament; no negative spinning, good pics, and at the end they even let you know where the final results would be posted. Good comeback!

I just started coming to the Pensacola area a couple of years ago and I have been shocked by the lack of outdoors coverage in the PNJ. I guess I have been spoiled by the coverage provided

by the paper in Baton Rouge. Every Thursday and Sunday they have a special outdoors section

for fishing and/or hunting issues and reports from both fresh and saltwater guides in Louisiana.

Something similiar would be a HUGE success in the PNJ.

They tried it, it failed with advertisers. Actually, it worked but the advertisers were pulling out of the main paper to go into the outdoors mag. So there was no new money.

They shrunk it down and it runs on Wednesdays. One page inside the Sports section. It's good for what it is but it could be much better.

Anthonyma (7/3/2009)OB and destin just realize the amount of money that fishing, beaches, concerts and etc. bring in for everyone in the community. They care more and do a better job than our area. Seems pensacola is more into being hidden from everyone and happy with the little events they put on downtown and thats it. We have more marinas more coast line better beaches should I go on probably but if I do I'll just get mad. We improved I110 for who knows how muchwe all knowthey are not going to advertise to get people to visit thats for sure.

Might just be me but I kinda like that we are hidden. Destin and OB really are not that far away.
