Default Leave it to the Pensacola News Journal......

...to put a negative spin on anything they can get their hands on. As if any tournament doesn't have enough problems to deal with, the PNJ finds a way to negatively address one of the oldest tournaments on the Gulf Coast. If you read Friday's paper you see they spent virtually the entire article talking about the bad side of things rather than the good. You can bet your ass the Destin and Orange Beach papers do their best to help things, not hurt them

How does that article hurt the tournament? The entries are in and paid.

It seems it's just a realistic look at one of the many things effected by the economy.

Now, if it was an article about how killing Sea Kittens was horrible, then, yes, negative.

Brent (7/3/2009)the one about there being fewer boats fishing this year because of the economy?

why is that negative?
+1....Maybe the turnout is not want the tournament had hoped for, but I commend them for putting time and effort into keeping thisthing going. :clap

Orange beach and destin are light years ahead of pensacola as far as selling itself as a tourist destination. It's not just the PNJ but the city figure heads as well. It's just painfull for me when I go to OB or destin and see what they do with so little. They sell their area very well for what little coast they are working with.

That's 110% correct. Do you think they do it because they don't have much else to promote (not that we do) or because the people in those locations are better at it, care more or what? That's always been something I've noticed in my dealings between the three areas.

Not that I want Pensacola Beach to be the concrete canyon that OB is or want our 98 in Gulf Breeze to look like 98 in Destin but there has to be a happy medium. No?

OB and destin just realize the amount of money that fishing, beaches, concerts and etc. bring in for everyone in the community. They care more and do a better job than our area. Seems pensacola is more into being hidden from everyone and happy with the little events they put on downtown and thats it. We have more marinas more coast line better beaches should I go on probably but if I do I'll just get mad. We improved I110 for who knows how muchwe all knowthey are not going to advertise to get people to visit thats for sure.

Again, I agree totally but money aside, is it worth it?

Yes, there would be millions to be made by almost any business in town. Loads of development, tons of jobs.

Then you get urban sprawl -- not much I know but ... -- where the woods of Milton become Gulf Breeze proper and proper is a giant strip mall. All the things we take for granted are gone. Short trips to the beach become Blue Angels weekend every weekend.

OB is a mess. Destin locals hate Destin (in the summer).

Then again, when and if they close NAS, there's THE golden chance for Pensacola to do something major. Imagine that place on par with the Wharf as far as concerts go without the uppity shops. A few nice restuarants, some bars. That would major.

Or they could get off their asses and develop the land across from turd tanks, because everyone wants to go to a Three Dog Night show with the sweet scent of butt blowing toward them.

It'll bea while but our kids will see something happen and we'll tell them how nice it was once upon a time.

We've talked about the NAS thing a long time ago. I'm all for the military being right here in my home town and love it actually. But if it did ever close down the warf would be nothing to what could be done out there. Golf course, private airport huge deep water marinas the list goes on and on.

It'd be a sight to see but I'm perfectly happy with the Blues flying overhead while I head to fish.
