they are both just over the bridge going into Pensacola from Pace. Swamphouse on the right, Smith's on the left. Jim's is on the right about halfway across the string of bridges.

Do NOT use Jims ramp. It is the biggest piece of crap and they should be ashamed to charge money for that ramp. That is where Turpin lost the county truck. I've launched my Scout there one time. NEVER Again! |

Swamphouse ramps are good.Nice facility.
Smith'sisok as well but get a little tough on super high tides. Jim's ramps are crap. Not onlyare they in terrible shape, but they are located in a narrow channel so that with any kind of decent tidal movement, it can be a bitch getting you boat back on your trailer. |

It is hard to say which ramps are better suited until it is known what type/size boat you have.
Like many have said, Jim's can be a challenge. Especially at LOW tide (like winter tides) unless you have a boat that is less than 17'. Even in the summer months anything larger than a 17' boat can be really tricky there. It is often a real pain to get the boat out b/c tidal movement through the narrow pass really rips. His ramps are in bad shape and there is a lot of debris in the water around there too. But, if you've got a small boat (less than 17') and need bait or whatever then Jim's can set you up. Plus, he can give you change if you don't have exactly $4. The Swamphouse is a really nice area regardless of boat size or tide conditions <-- just wish that they still served food!!! Just bring exact change ($4 to launch) or else you'll catch it from the property owners. I put a $20 in there one time and kept up w/ the # of times that I'd launched. One of the "You Owe Me" times, the guy comes out and gives me all kind of grief about not paying - I tried to explain but he wouldn't listen. I had to shell out another $4 before he'd let me launch. Archie Glover is really relatively close to then too (in terms of fishing spots) but I rarely launch from there. |
