Anybody familiar with Fishing inVirginia Beach, Virginia?

I have been here for a week and have located the marina and seen the boats.

There are several charters here but don't knowwhich one to go on.

Any info. would be good.

I have not actually fished the area yet but when visiting my son there at Norfolk last year went by the <SPAN class=pp-place-title>Oceans East 2 Tackle Shop <SPAN class="pp-headline-item pp-headline-address">(5785 Northampton Boulevard, Virginia Beach, <SPAN class="pp-headline-item pp-headline-phone"><SPAN class=telephone><NOBR>(757) 464-6544</NOBR>?) and talked to them a little. I would say that would be a good place to go by and start.

<SPAN class="pp-headline-item pp-headline-phone">I know there were some party boats leaving from near the norfolk navy base we almost went on, think they were less than $100.

<SPAN class="pp-headline-item pp-headline-phone">The Cheasapeake Bay Bridge has a pier on it you can fish from, believe it is on the first island. They were catching redfish when i was there.

You are also an hour drive away from the outer banks, surf fishing, piers, marinas. They were catching redfish in the surf too when we visited.

The offshore bite in VA beach has been on fire the past couple of years. They catch white marlin up their all summer long and the tuna bite is good also buth you have about an 80 mile run to the grounds. The inshore fishing is great in the bay lots of bluefish black fish stripers etc. up their the big deal (like Snapper) is Flounder and the flounder fishing is tough they are pressured commercially and rec. guys hit um pretty hard also. This offshore bite generally occurs in June July and August. the best near shore striper fishing is in the fall and wither generally over by march when the fish migrate back into the bay. I would recomend a radar because it gets foggy up their alot (like the Missippi River foggy). Ruddie inlet is a good place to start for info large fishing fleet.

You have the chesepeak pier, Sand bridge pier and the chesepeak bridge tunnel pier. Pricey have to pay the toll to get there.

if you can wait about two more weeks go down to pirates cove on the banks they will be catch tuna in good numbers by then if you want a charter otherwise you need to wait until june for offshore stuff out of VA or the northern banks all the fish hang up around Oregon Inlet until then most years. Several good charter operations down their also.The best being the Carolinan ran by the Tillet family I belive Omine is running her now out of Oregon Inlet. Top of the line boat and family they help start the whole EAST COAST fishing scene. Check them out Long drive but worth every minute. You may want to also try the Hunter ran by Walt Spurel he is in Pirates Cove last I heard. Hell of a Guy. Hope this helps

Most of the boats out of the Virginia Beach Fishing Center are good. I've been out with both Frog Pile and Backlash, both were fantastic, I've only been out in the summer, like July so I can't speak too much for this time of year.
