Does anyone know where to obtain Redfish tags for Florida and/or is there a universal fish tag? Would prefer not to "buy" them. I have gotten Cobia tags but have had no luck finding Redfish tags.

I personally have never heard of a fish tag in Florida. Maybe someone else has. Sea-r-cy

Are you talking about to tag caught fish?

I've heard of tagging fish for science purposes sometimes when they catch and release they tag. To catch snook and lobster you are supposed to have a special permit besides the fishing license. But, I don't recall a redfish tag here either.

Wirelessly posted
I've been wanting to get some tags and tag every thing that swims... eventually I'll catch one that I tagged...

What I am talking about is tagging and releasing. Coastal Conservation in Florida has no tag and release "tags" but Louisianna does. Emailed them twice and have yet to hear anything. As much coastline as Florida has and with all the Uiversities, there would some kind of tag and release program , if for nothing else, to track fish. You can google Redfish tags and pay $25 for them..........does that make any sense to you boys?

Try Mote Marine Labs in Sarasota. I think they've got what you're looking for.

Not sure where to get tags from, but I did get a snapper last weekend that had a FWC tag in it. I called it in and reported it. They say I should get a t-shirt in 6-8 weeks and a report of where the fish was originally tagged and its length. They asked if I harvested it, or released it. I had to harvest it after it didnt swim away once the spear poked a hole in him.
