<P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">I went out this weekend on a picture perfect Saturday. Everything went wonderfully according to plan until I loaded up the boat and found a note on my windshield saying that all <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
ffice:smarttags" /><st1 lace w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Pensacola</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">City</st1:PlaceType></st1 lace> launches will start charging $5.00 a pop in January. Has anyone else seen or heard of this, and if yes do you know when or if the City Council plans to vote on it? Oh yeah we caught some fish too? <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">

Had a notice on the windshield Sat. at Sanders bch. If they think I'm paying $5.00 to launch at that crackhead hangout, they are mistaken. I'll gladly take my money to the shipyard, and have plenty of parking and a little more confidence all my stuff will be there when I get back!! I guarantee there wont be 6-7 cars without trailers there after they start charging either!!
And the long no wake zone is fine by me, give's us a chance to get the boat situated!! |

Ditto...or "I'm with stupid" or whatever I'm supposed to say. We had an incident at Sanders where we were the first boats there at 5:15 in the morning and some crackhead was hanging out in his car in the parking spaces. I was a little leery of leaving my truck/trailer there. Luckily the cops pulled up right as we were launching and started checking the guy out. I made sure to thank them for patrolling the area. But they will have to make some major improvements, security wise and others, at Sanders for it to be worth $5 to me. |

I wish I had known that was going up for a vote. I would have gone to the council meeting and made an ass of myself, at least more of an ass than usual. I use Bayview and it seems pretty secure, but the ramps are full of pot holes, and I would expect that sort of thing to get fixed now if they are going to charge for us to use it. Who is going to collect the money, and how will this $5.00 fee possibly cover their salary?

The shoreline park boat launch in GB charges $10 a day or $25 a year I think. It kinda sucks. But, if you lock your car, everthing will be waiting for you when you get back.

They're going to use a system like a national park with a drop box. You'll fill out the envelope, put it with your money in the box, and put a pull-off tab in your window. The annual pass is the way to go though.
This is a change, but city and county budgets are getting pounded, especially in the recreation areas. User fees will help. |

$5.00 to launch.....I have no problem paying a launch fee. As long as the launch will stay maintained and safe.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I'm all for launch fee's, Redfish stamps, Red snapper stamps, and whatever other realistic fee's that may be associated with access and accurate record keeping. Just saying if I had to pay, I would choose a nicer/safer facility!!
