Default Escambia Search and Rescue is asking for help

Some of you know that I am the Dive Commander for the ESAR team and I am proud to help our community in any way that I can but I am taking a minute to ask for assistance on a task that ESAR has accepted and it is quite a challenge. Local knowledge of the waterways and being prepared for the conditions that we may face at any time is a daunting task and that was never more evidentas when the ESAR teams went to Bayou La Batre last year to help search for the missing children. We carried our local SAR gear and were overwhelmed by the marsh and swampy conditions we faced, Some of our gear never left the staging area and we wereunprepared fot the terrain whichincreased our risk and hampered our search. Only a few months ago,ESAR hostedthefirst of many SARRegional Conferences to gather the regional teams to better prepare each to help the other in times of need. In this meeting, I vowed to help prepare charts and technical data on our rivers, lakes, and all waterways to share so if a mission occurs, weor anybody assisting can better prepare to assist by bringing the adequate equipment.

I come to the members of the forum for help in this matter because I cant imagine a greater wealth of knowledge in a single forum in this matter. What I am asking is for assistance with preparing the regional data of Pensacola by compiling any topographical maps that may accurately show terrain, tips and information that provide local insightand experience, and general tidal information. Ihave a fair knowledge of our area but I could use a little help. Being prepared and utilizing the proper equipment can be the difference in a safe recovery. I am not asking for anything fishing relatedand I am not asking for anyones private #'s. I even feel that the data compiled should be offered to anyone who requests because this is a idea to promotesafe boating on the waterways by combining vast experience and knowledge with current technological data. No garmin map can replace a lifetime of any fishermans knowledge of a waterway. Thanks, and any help is appreciated. I can be PM'd here, mye-mail idesardiver@cox.net and my cell is 501-1969. Thanks, Clint

you might try and contact the GIS dept. at the property appraisser's office and talk to bill hayden. he's an ex-navy man and helps design the map systems and is familiar with the area or can put you in touch with others that could help. the ph.# is 434-2735 ask for him personally. hope this helps.
