Default Curious about the drag on Tiagra reels???

When using a reel like the Shimano Tiagra how do you use the drag when a fish is on your bait? do you put it on strike soon as he hits it? or stay free spooled for few seconds after he hits it then put it on strike? when would you ever put it on full?

I've used freespool livebaiting, light drag trolling small baits or fishing for whites and full strike on larger baits hunting blues. Depends on the application..

That can be a tricky question because it all depends on what you have your strike drag set at. Is I usually keep it in free spool until the fish is actually hooked itself (circle hooks) that way I can pay out line or hold tight to move the drag lever to where I want it. I usually set the strike drag at 15 lbs for bottom fishing.
