Headed to Alabama this coming weekend to Crappie fish, haven't done it in quite some time, I know you can catch on artificial white grubs and live minnows, but what is your secret to catching crappie ??????

with the water still so cold, they will still be holding in deeper water.

Fish at night under lights. Rig with carolina rig and live tuffies.

Or, if you are deadset on goingfishing during the day, try casting on the deeper docks on the sides facing the sun. They will congregate in the ever-so-slightly warmer thermocline.

I think they will still be in the 12 foot or deeper water, though.

Of course, every day and soemtimes each hour is different, but I have had the best luck over all with an artificial crawfish lure made by rapalla(the smaller one). If you want to use a skirted jig, a brown skirt with a green and black specked grub(chartreuse sp?)behind it works best for me. I've caught morecrappie overall and in more conditions on those two artificial lures lures than anything else. Of course, live is always a good choice(especially in cold when they are deep), but I prefer the coverage of artificial and I get impatient. The action on that crawfish is intense and seems to bring more bites in cold weather than the grubs do. Go with the deep diver and bounce it of the bottom if you can. Just my two cents. Hope it helps.

Bang, right on the head. Best results I have ever had, fish deep. We use jig poles, jugs and yo-yo's this time of year and it is hard to make yourself fish that deep no matter what you are using.

What body of water? I was on Guntersville for the past two Saturday's and they are thick under bridges suspended 10 to 15 feet deep (my graph was almost completely red). It was difficult to go under the bridges due to number of boats. I don't crappie fish but I hear you need to be on your spot before daylight. As for baits most guys appeared to be fishing minnows under slip cork. Beetle spins and tiny crankbaits are the go to lures.

finding any SERIOUS structure in 8-15' of water as stated above is the key. also that water temp will rise up to 6-10 degrees througout the day. with daylight savings time coming up next sunday: that 1-6pm time frame usually heats up the bite...

Crappie season is heating up on Lake Weiss (where I live). Most folks are trolling 1/16 or 1/32 jigs on 6lb line. The fish should be in the bigger coves in water that is 10-15' deep The fish will be in various depths at different times of the day and types of weather. You just have to experiment with different speeds (.7 mph to 1.2 mph usually) and weights of jigs to get to the proper depth for the fish. Sometimes you will need to add a small splitshot to get the right depth. This is a good time to catch the fat prespawners.

If you come here, be careful, because we have lots of big stumps waiting to get your prop!

I was at the Alabama river last weekend and the water temp. was 48 and we caught 5, one weighing2.5 pounds fishing 2 feet deep at the bank. This weekend will be hot. They are moving in on the banks and close. All caught on jigs.

Wecaught some slabs on Al river back in Oct ly. We were hitting the docksthat hadChristmas trees. Had to be careful cause the owners would run us off. Crappie season should be getting into full swing pretty soon with the spawn. Start catching them in 1-3 foot of water using live crappie minnows. Best eatin fish there is....my opinion
