I dont smoke but I have seen two people that I work offshore with quit using Chantix. It is prescribed but it works. You will have to want to quit first but both of the guys that quit told me that using Chantix was the easiest it had ever been to quit. Hope you take the step and do it

I quit "cold turkey". Took me three tries. The first time (in early 1987) lasted for 6 months, the second time (inlate 1987)lastedabout a year, the third time (in 1988) which has lasted about20 years so far. I did however, smoke for a six-month period in2005after Hurricane Ivan. I was rebuilding my house and started smoking on the job site.I got around the smell on my clothes by telling my wifethe workers at the house were smokers and the smoke got on my clothes. This continued until she caught me at the job site with a cigarette and stormed off madder than heck. That made me quit immediately. Haven't smoked since. As you get older, the threat of lung cancer and emphysema becomes more apparent. I've lost a good friend to lung cancer back in the mid 80's in the prime of his life. I also see too many people lugging oxygen tanks around. I don't want to end up like that. The only tanks I enjoy lugging are scuba tanks.
I really hope you find the motivation and strength to quit. There is so much to live for. Yourself, your family, and your friends. Don't deprive them of your company. Good Luck. |

Start a savings fund with all the cig money you would normaly spend. As your wad grows, the desire to smoke lessons and you can go to Best Buy and buy whatever the hell you want.

Bottom line is you have to want to quit. If this is the case you are 50% of the way there. There are many conciderations in quitng that includ staying away from events that trigger your hand/habit to pick one up. Are you married to a smoker? If so you both have to quit to make it happen. Believe me I have been there. Part of our goal to get scuba certified was to quit smoking (the wife's idea on the smoking part). Good trade off for me I thnk. She had to get certfied with me. WIN WIN situation.
Sh tried cold turkey and I asked the Doc for Chantix. Well I got close to quiting but she had cigs around so I would get one every now and then. I said shit we are quiting not cutting back!! She got on Chantix and it has been almost 8 months so far. We did it before for 18 months. I asure you this is the last time. We are through with cigs. All desires are gone it is now just triggers like a good crawfish boil after you chowed down on a pound or 4 and 2 beers a cig is what you used to get now, sorry to say I get aother beer. But heck I would have had that with the cig anyway. Good Luck. Botom line is to set goals and understand you need to meet them!! |

Ok, I smoked for 40 years. I quit only one time, cold turkey and I found right away another habit and it worked for me. Every time I wanted a smoke, I would chew gum, spearmint and only spearmint. Like I said, it worked for me and that was in 2001. I still chew gum but dont 'need' it as often anymore.
Good luck. Oh by the way, my appitite increased and gained a few pounds. Food tastes better. |
