What is the difference between a marine surveyor and a mechanic who performs a pre-purchase inspection?

Hey Marine surveyor checks out the entire boat. This is most important for a large boat that stays in the water all the time. On those type boats you want to have a survey and a mechanical check. By a mechanic.

What kind of boating do you want to do fishing, cruising mostly?
How big of a boat do you want?
4 stroke or 2 stroke?
What size vehicle are you going to pull it with.
Find the type of boat you want and do your research online, or ask questions here.
Biggest question how much do you want to spend?
I'm no expert but have bought 4 boats in 10 years and each one was more expensive and bigger than the last.
I would buy a boat a bit bigger than you think you want to get out on those calm days.
Good luck if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

I recommend a no rot transom hull/boat. Meaning not a wooden transom.

What is your budget . That will give you the answers in here your looking for.
Most guys on here have looked at hundreds of boats for sale. I look at boats I'll never be able to afford, and I also look at boats that I don't need . It kind of becomes a passing time hobby for boaters and anglers even when you have a good running boat parked in the backyard.

All of the above. This is why you need a surveyor: Blazer Bay hull issues need advice...

When you apply for the Pre Approved Loan (PAL) you'll find out how old of a used boat you can buy. REMEMBER, you will be required to have insurance on the boat, another added expense.

Another question when buying for a private seller can you use a loan?
Most lending institutions will NOT lend money on a boat over 10yrs old.

Determine the size of boat and motor you need...then buy larger.

Just remember that a boat is like a penis. It requires a lot of attention and regardless of what size you have, you'll always want one bigger.
